According to religious texts, once upon a time, a very powerful Kshatriya lived in a village. He is very proud of his power.

But, he was religious. He used to worship Lord Vishnu, the savior of the world, every day. One day, he was going somewhere for some special work.

On the way, he met a Brahmin. At that time, he lost his temper. Before the Brahmin could explain anything to him, he started fighting with the Brahmin.

The Brahmin was very weak. He was unable to bear the attack of the powerful Kshatriya. Due to this, he died immediately. At that time all the powerful Kshatriyas were stunned.

He started atoning for it. He realized his mistake that he killed the weak Brahmin on the strength of his strength. He was very sad for killing the Brahmin in a fit of temper.

This information spread like wildfire in the entire village. The Kshatriya apologized to the villagers. He also promised to perform the last rites of the Brahmin as per rituals.

But, the Pandits refused to take part in the last rites. At that time, the Kshatriya apologized and wanted to know the result.

Then the Pandits said that after atoning for the ‘Brahma Hatya Dosh’, we will have food at your house. Hearing this, the Kshatriya asked the way to atone for the ‘Brahma Hatya Dosh’.

The Pandits said that on the Ekadashi date of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Sawan, worship Lord Vishnu, the savior of the world, as per rituals. Also, feed the Brahmins and give them donations.

By doing this, you will be freed from the ‘Brahma Hatya Dosh’. Later, the Kshatriya performed the last rites of the Brahmin.

That very night, Lord Vishnu came in the dream of the Kshatriya and said, “I am pleased with your devotion. Today you worshipped me with due rituals.

Due to the virtue of this fast, you have been freed from the sin of killing a Brahman. Since then, the fast of Kamika Ekadashi has been observed.
