At that time, there was social turmoil everywhere. He insisted that young monks should make their bodies strong by exercising.

Monks should also get proficient in using weapons so that the Hindu religion could be protected. That is why Adiguru built such monasteries.

Eligibility test

Observance of celibacy

  • When any common man comes to becomes a Naga Sadhu. Naga Sadhu has to observe celibacy for a long time.
  • It is very important to follow the rule of celibacy. It can take from 5 to 6 years.

Service work (seva)

  • The monk who takes initiation also has to serve his Guru and senior monks.

Not bowing the head

  • Naga monks do not bow their heads in front of the people of the society.
  • But they bow their heads to receive blessings from senior monks.

Performing own Pind Daan and Shradh

  • The most important task a Naga Sadhu has to do before taking initiation.
  • They perform their own Shraddha and Pinddaan with their own hands.
  • In this process, the Sadhak considers himself dead for his family and society.
  • He performs his own Shradh Karma with his own hands. Only after this, he is taught by the Guru.
  • The Guru also gives him a new name and a new identity.

Renunciation of clothes

  • Naga Sadhus do not wear clothes throughout their life. Because they are not even allowed to wear them.
  • If they have to wear clothes. Then Naga Sadhus can wear only saffron-colored clothes.
  • That too just one cloth. They remain naked throughout their life.

One time meal

  • Naga sadhus have to eat only one time in a day and night. That food also has to be brought by begging.
  • A Naga sadhu has the right to take alms from the largest of seven houses.
  • If he does not get alms from all the seven houses. Then he has to remain hungry.

Adornment of ashes and Rudraksha

  • Naga Sadhus wears Vibhuti and Rudraksha. They abandon the Shikha Sutra (braid).
  • They have to give up all their hair. He has to wear the entire matted locks on his head.

Sleeping only on the earth

  • Naga Sadhus sleeps only on the earth. They cannot use cots, beds, or any other means to sleep.

Living outside the settlement

  • Naga sadhus live outside the settlement. They cannot make their house with the common people.

  • Naga sadhus never criticizes anyone in their life.
